|
For the full Reference Description of Version 1.1 of the Dublin Core Metadata Element Set, see: http://purl.org/dc/documents/rec-dces-19990702.htm This describes the Dublin Core (DC) elements in detail. The following guidelines are for use in creating Dublin Core records in the OCLC CORC database for later inclusion in the WRLC internet access catalog. Title: required field. CORC harvests the HTML <Title> element as the DC title. In some cases the title displayed on the screen of the page may differ significantly from the HTML Title; in this case, use the title displayed on the screen. In the case of bilingual sites, a separate title field for each language should be included. Identifier: required field. CORC places the URL in this field. Type: optional field. CORC typically describes most web pages as "text". Remove this description in cases where it is misleading. Where a significant portion of the site is in an image, sound, or dataset format, describe it as such in the type element. *Contributor: Should be included even if Creator is known. If Creator is not known then contributor should be included if at all possible. Coverage: optional field *Creator: required field if known. If creator cannot be accurately determined then either the publisher or contributor field must be present to convey information concerning responsibility for content. Date: required field. The date added to CORC should be included as an indication of the date the resource was described. Date of original creation should be included if known. Format is YYYY-MM-DD. Description: Recommended field. CORC typically harvests text from the web page in this field; editing is typically required. If using text from the source verbatim, note "Cited from source". Format: optional field. Useful if plug-in applications are required. Language: recommended field. For multilingual sites this field should be repeated for each language. Recommended standard is ISO 639. *Publisher: Should be included if known. Relation: optional field Source: optional field Rights: optional field. Access rights for restricted resources should be described. Subject: required field. Inclusion of simple LC subject headings is strongly recommended. - LC subject headings: LC headings should be indicated by adding the appropriate qualifier (see note below). Typically each LC subject heading will be entered in a separate subject field. - geographic/LCSH - nameConference/LCSH - nameCorporate/LCSH - namePersonal/LCSH - titleUniform/LCSH - topical/LCSH - Keyword headings: Keyword headings are required if LC headings are not included. Keyword headings should be entered with no qualifier. Multiple keyword headings may be entered in a single field, separated by a comma. * At least one of the following fields must be present: Creator, Publisher, Contributor Approved by the WRLC Digital Library Advisory Committee February 1, 2001 | |||||||
