Borrowing from Other WRLC Libraries

Eligibility

These library users from member universities and affiliated institutions are eligible to borrow from other WRLC libraries:

  • Undergraduate students enrolled in a degree program
  • Graduate students enrolled in a degree program
  • Faculty members

If you belong to another category, please consult your home institution's Access Services Department.

Direct Borrowing

Eligible borrowers may go directly to a participating library to borrow material. You must present a current valid university photo ID from your home institution.

Note: In general the law and medical libraries do not provide access or lending to users from other WRLC institutions.

Consortium Loan Service

Eligible borrowers may place online requests for books and copies of journal articles from other WRLC libraries. To use the Consortium Loan Service, you should search the ALADIN Catalog", display the desired item, and use the "Request" feature. Requested books will be delivered to your library by the WRLC delivery service. Articles may be delivered directly to you online or to the library at your option.

Some material, such as reference material, course reserve books, and non-circulating books will not be lent. Materials such as audiovisual materials, microfilm and microfiche, theses and dissertations, fragile material, and government documents are subject to the policies of the individual libraries.

Materials at the WRLC Center

Some materials have been relocated to offsite shelving to make room in campus libraries for newer or more frequently accessed volumes. These items appear in the ALADIN catalog with a location saying "WRLC Center". You may request these items using the online Request feature described above. WRLC delivers requested books to your library the next business day, and can deliver requested articles online directly to you or to your library. WRLC also maintains an onsite reading room. To make arrangements to use the reading room to review WRLC Center materials, please consult the Reference Department at the home library.

Policies and Procedures

The loan period for normal circulating materials from WRLC member libraries is four weeks for undergraduates, six weeks for graduate students, and three fixed end-of-term due dates for faculty. Loan periods for special materials such as items, will vary according to each institution's policy.

The loan period for circulating materials housed at the WRLC Center is eight weeks.

All borrowers are subject to the policies, procedures, rules and fine schedules of the institution from which material is borrowed. You are financially responsible for all materials charged out on your university ID.

Renewals may be requested at any WRLC member library or online. In some cases renewals may not be granted, depending on the owning library's policy and whether or not other library users have requested the materials.

Materials may be returned to any WRLC member library.
