SHARED DIGITAL LIBRARY (LIBRARY INFORMATION TECHNOLOGY SERVICES)

Goal: Provide coordinated access to all information resources owned or chosen by WRLC member libraries, and contain library systems costs by building on shared technology resources

Strategy 1: Create and maintain a shared online catalog describing all materials owned by member libraries, with current availability status to facilitate consortial borrowing.

Strategy 2: Facilitate access to online information resources incuding journal article citations, full text and full image articles, electronic journals, multimedia products, and datasets.

Strategy 3: Create digital data bases (images, audio, video) of WRLC special collections and archives, to preserve and improve access to unique materials owned by WRLC libraries.

Strategy 4: Maintain state-of-the-art computing, networking, and software technologies to provide enhanced services and to support the required system capacity and usage levels cost-effectively.

Strategy 5: Provide information technology planning and implementation services for related applications within individual libraries

COOPERATIVE COLLECTION DEVELOPMENT AND ACCESS

Goal: Increase the scope and accessibility of information resources available to WRLC students and faculty

Strategy 1: Maintain appropriate levels of library acquisitions funding to support local needs and contribute to the shared research collection

Strategy 2: Optimize the universities' investments in the libraries' physical collections

Strategy 3: Maintain a cooperative process for selecting and funding shared purchases of online resources to realize cost savings.

Strategy 4: Improve delivery of information directly to patrons

OFFSITE STORAGE

Goal: Provide optimum space for collections, services, and users in campus libraries and reduce capital expenditures for library book space

Strategy 1: Maintain a cost-effective, secure, environmentally-controlled offsite storage service for member library materials

Strategy 2: Develop policies to support optimal use of the storage facility and effective collection management within the libraries
