Major WRLC Initiatives

  1. Information Technology
    1. Make ALADIN Research Commons public (i.e. add to ALADIN menus)
    2. Develop WRLC research and development infrastructure to support experimentation with new interfaces over live data and support usability testing.
    3. Develop a process and a conceptual model for implementing next generation library systems.
    4. Investigate options for alternative discovery and access portals to ALADIN data and implement as appropriate.
    5. Develop ALADIN system recovery site at a remote location
  2. Resource Sharing
    1. Explore options for providing database licensing services
    2. Explore approaches for evaluation and use of collection analysis and electronic resource usage data to optimize value of the collections
    3. Work with vendors to extend electronic interlibrary loan rights and develop workflows to effectively use those rights.
  3. Offsite Storage
    1. Complete planning for storage expansion or alternatives
    2. Develop shared last copy policy for storage facility
    3. Move archival boxes to external storage facility and reallocate space for bound volumes
  4. Governance and Membership
    1. Review and revise WRLC Advisory Committee charges
    2. Establish operational guidelines for WRLC committees
    3. Develop contingency and continuity plans for uninterrupted provision of library services among the consortium libraries.
    4. Improve communication and sense of community by institutionalizing WRLC forums, expanding use of the blog and use of other online community and virtual meeting tools.
